Government College Of Engineering and Textile Technology was ormerly known as College of Textile Technology, Serampore and it was established in 1908. This Govt. institute is at present under the control of Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of West Bengal and affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology and accredited to All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE), New Delhi. It is one of India's oldest and highest-ranked engineering college. The College situated on the western bank of the river Ganges at Serampore and 20 km, away from Kolkata, has always remained in the vanguard in imparting education in Textile Technology. To cope up the need of new technology in the millennium two new under graduate courses started in this college, B. Tech in Information Technology in the year 2000 and B. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering in the year 2001.
The Placement and Training Cell provides employment oppurtunities to graduating students through campus recruitment in leading companies. It conducts various programmes on developing Communicational Skills and Personality development for final year students. Some of the prominent recruiters always keep in touch with the placement cell to select best of the students from a particular batch.
