IIM Rohtak started functioning on June 30, 2010. It was formally inaugurated on the same day by Mr. Ravi Kant, Vice Chairman of Tata Motors Ltd, in the presence of eminent faculty of IIM Lucknow and board members. Mr. Ravi Kant is the first Chairperson of the Board of Governors of IIM Rohtak. The initial batch strength has been pegged at 50 students supposedly to keep a high student teacher ratio. IIM Rohtak is amongst the seven new IIMs that were approved by the Union Cabinet on August 27, 2009. Incidentally it is also North Indias first IIM. The institute is being mentored by IIM Lucknow in its formative years. The current faculty in charge of the academic programme consists primarily of senior faculty from IIM Lucknow as well as from its Noida Campus. Dr. Devi Singh, the Director of IIM Lucknow, is the mentoring director of IIM Rohtak.
Training and Placement Cell is a core area in an Engineering College which compliments the efforts of the members of faculty by organizing value-added programmes and providing placement opportunities to students. The cell continuously coordinates with the various industries and organizations for placement of the students. It liaises with the Corporate sectors and helps in developing the industry-academic inter-relationship.
