Study Abroad to be Movement Specialist

Malaysia, apart from offering international degrees at affordable costs, and a vibrant student life, also offers quality healthcare qualifications to students. With today’s society of people becoming more health conscious, Physiotherapy has become a preferred treatment option for certain ailments and conditions. Especially since physical therapy is known for its unique advantages of being cost-effective, efficient and without side-effects, as compared to traditional medication, physiotherapists, also called “Movement Specialists” are in much demand today.

Some of the leading universities in Malaysia offer Diploma and Bachelor’s Programmes in physiotherapy. A popular option among international students is the honours degree in physiotherapy which takes 3-4 years to complete. The courses focus on practical training and clinical placement that give students the opportunity to apply the theory in real-life situations.

A diploma course is for three years and the final year is dedicated to clinical placement. AIMST University and Integrated College of Allied Health and Nursing offer diploma programmes for international students.

Some common subjects you will find yourself studying are Physiology, Anatomy, and Pathology. Many colleges offer areas of specialization within Physiotherapy such as Paediatrics, Geriatrics, Orthopaedics, Neurological disorders and Sports medicine.

To apply for the Bachelor’s degree, Malaysian Universities except you to complete 10+2 years of secondary education with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English ad the primary subjects of study. A keen interest in the biological sciences will help.

There are plenty of career opportunities both in Malaysia and in other countries, including India. Physiotherapists work in a broad range of areas such as hospitals, private clinics (and sports clinics), gyms, and rehabilitation centres.

The Malaysian Physiotherapy Association regulates the practice of Physiotherapists and education being provided in this field, both in Malaysia and abroad.
