Recently, the research made by the Google team reveals that over half of the Indian Internet population is within the age limit of 18-35. The report says that India has reached top 2 stage when spot globally, when it comes to absolute volume of search queries related to education on Google Search.
According to the report, it says that in the year 2008 India stood in the 8th place but now, it is lagging behind only USA. This was revealed yesterday on a study titles as "Students On The Web", which was arranged by Google India. The study was held by combining Google Search Query patterns and an offline research conducted by TNS Australia on behalf of Google India.
The study declared that over 60% of Indian students, who have access to internet, use it as their first source to research for information related to educational courses and institutes. Education related queries on Google in India are growing at over 46% year by year highlighting the strong demand for information on institutes and courses that are available in the country.
Out of all education related searches on Google, over 40% of queries were for higher education courses and institutes. Search queries coming from mobile phones have also grown considerably showing a growth of over 135% and amounting to over 22% of all education related search questions.
Some of the courses or query searched are based on IT-Vocational courses (44%), Engineering courses and institutes (40%), and Postgraduate courses along with MBA (16%). Based on the official research, when quizzed on the criteria used for researching/selecting institutes/courses, students highlighted that placements (56%) is the most important criteria for selecting a institute and course, followed by faculty (49%), course content (48%), reputation of the institute (43%) and fee structure (41%).
The study also found that the students take anywhere close to 5-6 months on a average to research before finalizing the institute and course. In terms of type of video content, students also wanted to watch videos on career options/placements (56%), videos of existing students and alumni (29%) and videos of classroom session (27%) to help them take more informed decisions.
So, what does this explain? Is India also growing up in Education field? or Its just use of Internet which is been increased for the sake of information required for studies? What do you think? Post comments below..
