The Counselling session for Engineering admissions in Chennai has finally come to end. This year, there are around 15000 more takers for Engineering compared to the previous year. This is for the very first time in recent 5 years that Mechanical engineering course has emerged as the top favorite one among engineering candidates.
Al-most a count of 29,319 candidates opted for Mechanical Engg, 27,082 chose ECE and 18706 chose Computer Science and Engg. There were indeed many more seats than required here, and students had plenty choices much to the relief of those who had their counselling dates this week, the last of the counselling that lasted over a month.
An official from Anna University said, "It is good that Mechanical Engineering is at top most opted course list. But, as many as 55,813 engineering seats will go vacant this year out of which 55,168 are in self financing colleges and 644 in colleges under Anna University. And also one vacant seat in the ST category in the Textile Technology' course".
TamilNadu Engineering admissions Authority, secretary Rhymend Uthariaraj said "Last year, the allotment for 1.50 lakh students was held in 35 days, this year the same task was held in the same timings but for 1.24 lakh candidates only. But still, we hope all those who got in enjoy and learn something substantial in their respective courses".
