NIT's Face Shortage In Faculties

Recently a source revealed that NIT's - National Institutes of Technology have been facing shortage in faculty members. Hence NIT's have decided to find out innovative approaches to address this issue.

In order to realize the recommendations of the Ramaswami Committee, NIT's have also sought for greater interface with the industry, said the sources.

A meeting was held at the NIT Council which was chaired by the HRDM (Minister of Human Resource Department) Kapil Sibal where, it was decided on greater interface with the industry to meet the future goals and aspirations of these premier institutes.

Although, endorsing the Ramaswami committee recommendations last year, the NIT Council had deliberated upon on various policy issues plaguing the NIT system in relation to the appointment of faculty and non-faculty staff, and career advancement scheme in respect to teaching staff.

It was decided that four-tier flexible system for faculty appointment, as existing in the IIT system, be introduced in NIT's as well.

However, there is no doubt that in past fifty years, IIT's have proved their worth by producing highly competent and skilled professionals, researchers and academicians. This is probably the single most important reason that a large number of students dream of getting into these institutes. But, if these institutes are facing that a large number of students dream of getting into these institutes.

But, if these institutes are acing massive problem of shortage then it is a serious concern that the expectation with which students are going for IIT's specially the new ones, are they able to provide high quality education? What do you think about this issue?
